It’s time for heritage high jinks at Gabriëlskloof, as this wine and olive estate invites you to savour ubuntu spirit in true Overberg style, with its month-long offering of proudly South African treats. It all culminates with a Long Table Heritage Braai Feast on Sunday 24 September.

For the entire month of September, the Gabriëlskloof Tasting Lounge will showcase homegrown flavours with a truly unique Mzansi Tapas Taster, featuring familiar snack bites with a local twist all paired with four estate wines.

Think: Snoek ‘n Patat croquettes with amasi foam and chakalaka, Bobotie poppers, Tangy Pickled Fish Tacos and Biltong in Red Wine. (Yowzer that sounds good!)

Gabrielskloof’s Mzansi Tapas Taster will also be available as small plate starters, or as sides to a main meal at their restaurant during Heritage Month.

The month-long food and wine celebration will build up to a memorable braai feast on National Heritage Day (24 September). Set inside the winery complex, a single, continuous table of unity will line the shaded veranda that surrounds the lush courtyard – the day’s grassy theatre of braai, starring Executive Chef Frans Groenewald.

Here the family-friendly Long Table Heritage Braai Feast will put Chef Frans centre stage, as he applies his gourmet touch to the grill.

Expect braai heaven as seasonal fare is served up with genuine Gabriëlskloof hospitality – meat on the spit, snoek and mussels on the coals, garlic rolls, roosterkoek, pap-en-sous and of course, all the tasty trimmings that go with a good old South African braai. And, as tradition demands, such a fantastic meal would be incomplete without a delectable sweet note brought by beloved South African all-stars such as melktert and malva pudding.

“Gabrielskloof is proudly South African, which is why we’re excited to share our passion and pleasures with fellow South Africans around the fire as we celebrate our cultural heritage and diversity. We’ve laid on some brilliant food and wine for the occasion and have made it absolutely family friendly,” shares an all fired-up Frans.

“What better day than National Braai Day to revel in the ultimate South African pastime!”

Add to the occasion the foot-stomping tunes of local muso Gian Groen performing live at the event, the opportunity for young and old to frolic on the lawns, and any reason to stay away simply goes up in smoke!

This is the opportunity to savour impeccable estate wines, soak up country air and to make new friends through inimitable South African hospitality – over a plate of great food.
