What’s on the cards for Cape Town and Joburg’s Decorex Africa 2025 expo?

An exciting storm of creativity is brewing to unleash in June for Cape Town and Johannesburg audiences. The famed Decorex Africa expo is back for 2025, with a whirlwind of activities (and artistic treats) awaiting the crowds. I was a lucky egg to be able to visit the Decorex 2024 expo that took place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC, or phonetically pronounced like chattering teeth amongst us locals). To say that I was impressed and shaking all the way to my boots from inspiration, is proooobably an understatement!

My article topping and tailing the Decorex Africa 2024 expo included an honourable mention to its newly launched app. The expo itself spanned 3 days which, even going every day, didn’t do the ingenuity justice! Flashing screens of innovative sustainable projects, gyrating 3D-printers autonomously creating a decorative vase; the live FoodJams demo, Samsung Bespoke Kitchens, even the Plascon and Lexus displays were as riveting as that childhood first time walking into a candy store. Eyes bulging, mouth agape! It felt almost impossible to top.

So, what to expect for 2025 if last year was already so great?

The Cape Town showcase, with its emphasis on sustainable design and innovation, generated over R60 million in media value and attracted 21446 visitors to its 10 000m2 venue. The Johannesburg exhibition, anchored by the prestigious 100% Design Africa platform, drew 28 554 visitors to its 19 000m2 space. Together the shows featured over 600 exhibiting brands.

A highlight of the 2025 shows will be the African Pavilions, showcasing the continent’s greatest makers and reinforcing Decorex Africa’s position as a catalyst for pan-African creative commerce. This strategic focus on African design talent demonstrates the exhibition’s commitment to expanding market opportunities across the continent, while signature features such as the Decorex Smart House exemplify the exhibition’s dedication to showcasing cutting-edge smart home technology and innovative living solutions that enhance modern homes and connect professionals across multiple sectors.

Designers of the Year announced amid Major Industry Shifts

Decorex Africa, the continent’s foremost authority on decor, interior design and lifestyle, is proud to announce the selection of two exceptional talents as its Designers of the Year 2025, reflecting the exhibition’s strengthened pan-African vision. Egyptian sustainability innovators Reform Studio has been named Decorex Cape Town’s Designer of the Year, while globally renowned Nigerian-born architect and designer Charles O Job takes the title for Decorex Joburg. The announcement comes as Decorex Africa releases its highly anticipated 2025 State of the Industry Report, revealing a sector characterised by resilience and innovation despite economic challenges.

Decorex Academy – A new initiative

Another exciting announcement from Decorex Africa is the launch of the Decorex Academy, an online membership platform designed specifically for trade professionals in the design, decor and architecture industries. The Academy gives members year-long access to exclusive content, education and VIP trade benefits. The platform offers continuing professional development (CPD)-accredited learning opportunities through online webinars and seminars, a growing library of on-demand content including access to the complete State of the Industry Report, and VIP access to Decorex shows.

For complimentary trade access, members of the trade can pre-register at https://register.decorex.co.za/cape-town/delegate/register/default for Cape Town and https://register.decorex.co.za/joburg/delegate/register/default for Joburg. On acceptance of their application, members of the trade will get the chance to upgrade to the VIP Trade Experience, which gives access to the Academy and the State of the Industry Report.

Download the new dedicated Decorex app from the App Store or Google Play to help you plan your Decorex experience, making it smoother and more efficient. Don’t miss a beat.
