EatDrinkCapeTown 2025 Wrap-Up | What To Do in Cape Town This Festive!

-

As the year winds down and Mother City slips into her softest golden hour, there’s a familiar hum in the air of wanting and what to do in Cape Town this festive. Long lunches that blur into evenings, calendars filled with “just one more get-together,” and that delicious in-between feeling where time feels generous. Whether you’re a visitor soaking up the city’s summer glow or a local savouring the final stretch of the year, these end-of-year highlights are still very much worth pencilling in.

The year decorated my calendar like stocking favourites on a Christmas mantle. And wow, a big thank you to the team at Lume Agency for providing the most delightful experiences with extreme attention to detail, delight, and dreaminess! This year, I’ve been able to try-and-test the newest to the city’s adventures, so that you don’t have to. And what a splendour of celebrations its been with cocktail festivals, foodie adventures, luxe and lavish pop-ups, and so much more.

From our informal Friendsmas feasts to formal playful indoor escapes and high-octane thrills, here’s how I’m wrapping up the highlights of the year at Eat Drink Cape Town.

First Off, A Very Cape Town Friendsmas (At Home, But Make It Special)

Not every festive celebration needs a reservation! Some of the best ones happen around a friend’s dining table. Our informal Friendsmas was exactly that: relaxed, abundant, and deeply comforting.

We brought sticky gammon glazed to perfection, slow-roasted lamb dotted with sweet baby onions, and Parmesan potatoes finished with jewel-like pops of pomegranate seeds. Desserts leaned proudly nostalgic with a peppermint crisp tart (non-negotiable), alongside a cranberry vanilla cake that felt just festive enough without being fussy. And our in-house ultimate friend baker, Christopher, brought the house down with his hosting and the most-ing for decorations.

Games followed food, as they should. A chaotic White Elephant gift exchange, Friendsmas bingo, and a few intense rounds of Spy kept things loud, silly, and full of laughter. Proof that sometimes the most memorable “events” don’t come with tickets. Just good people, good food, and zero pressure.

Bokeh Karaoke, Claremont | Late Nights & Main Character Energy

If your festive season needs a little sparkle (and a lot of confidence), Bokeh Karaoke in Claremont delivers. Private karaoke rooms, sleek interiors, and a song catalogue that invites both serious performers and ironic belters make this a perfect group activity.

It’s ideal for friend groups, end-of-year team celebrations, or travellers wanting a fun, indoor night out without committing to a full club crawl. Bonus points for cocktails that help you commit to that high note you probably shouldn’t.

DOS-TEA Café High Tea | A Gentle Pause in the Festive Rush

For moments when the city feels a little too fast, DOS-TEA Café’s high tea pairing offers a softer rhythm. Set within the Hyatt Regency in Bo-Kaap, this experience blends aromatic teas with beautifully curated sweet treats! Soothe your soul and tastebuds with kadak tea, spiced blends, and pastries that feel both luxurious and comfortingly South African with Cape Malay twists on classics.

It’s an easy win for festive catch-ups, solo reset moments, or visitors looking to experience Cape Town’s layered food culture in a refined yet welcoming space. Bookings are still available, and it’s a lovely way to mark an afternoon without overcommitting.

AJABU Cocktail Safari | A Spirited Urban Adventure

For those who prefer to explore a city through its glasses rather than its streets, the AJABU Cocktail Safari offers a guided journey into Cape Town’s most iconic bars. Designed as an intimate, three-stop urban adventure, each Safari leads a small group through immersive cocktail masterclasses, curated tastings, and moments of live entertainment; all woven together by storytelling and African-inspired flavour.

Launching as a limited edition experience during AJABU’s November festivities, the Cocktail Safari is less about hopping between venues and more about slowing down to savour the craft, culture, and community behind every pour. Expect hands-on moments, playful discoveries, and the kind of connections that only happen over a perfectly balanced drink.

Whether you’re a visiting aficionado or a local looking to experience Cape Town’s bar scene through a more intentional lens, the AJABU Cocktail Safari promises an evening of flavour, fun, and friendship… one cocktail at a time!

Race Day Supercar Experiences | Adrenaline with a Side of Luxury

If your idea of festive fun leans more fast-paced, Race Day Supercar events offer an unforgettable thrill. From luxury supercars to the roar of engines and the spectacle of speed, this is an experience that feels indulgent, bold, and undeniably memorable.

Perfect for visitors wanting something uniquely different, or locals looking to end the year on a high-octane note. It’s less about watching and more about feeling every second.

Museum of Illusions Cape Town | Family-Friendly Festive Fun

For something playful, air-conditioned, and delightfully mind-bending, the Museum of Illusions Cape Town remains a firm favourite. With interactive installations, visual tricks, and hands-on exhibits, it’s a great option for families, couples, or friends needing a break from the heat.

It’s central, quick to explore, and wonderfully entertaining, making it a smart addition to any festive itinerary! Pssst, it’s kiddies friendly!

Closing the Year, Cape Town Style

Whether you’re hosting Friendsmas at home, belting out karaoke classics, sipping spiced tea in Bo-Kaap, chasing adrenaline, or getting lost in illusions; Cape Town continues to offer moments that feel both celebratory and grounding.

As the year draws to a close, this is your sign to savour what’s still available, lean into connection, and end the season exactly how this city does best: warmly, generously, and with a little bit of magic. Because sugar, spice, and everything nice can be found in the heart of our wondrous Cape Town.

Here’s to soft landings, full tables, and memories worth carrying into the new year!

Much love,

Sabs xx
