Locals are in for some real treats this winter at Catharina’s restaurant in Tokai. Executive Chef Archie Maclean is dishing up generous, hearty menus at pocket-friendly prices, in a range of attractive options.

Steenberg Wine Estate has two restaurants, with Catharina’s the fancier sister to more egalitarian BistroSixteen82. Both are top joints for a slap-up meal out.

At Catharina’s, two options stand out: The Sunday Buffet with Live Music from 12h00 till 15h00, and the 3-course Winter Menu Special for both lunch and dinner.

In addition to these special menus available until the end of October, Chef Archie has tweaked his à la carte menu, the 5-course tasting menu and Catharina’s dedicated vegetarian menu with new seasonal dishes.

Factor in a cosy fire in the idyllic Cape Dutch surroundings, and you’ve got a winner lunch and dinner.

The Winter Lunch Special is priced at R185 for 2 courses/ R215 for 3 courses, and is offered daily from Monday to Saturday

You’ll be spoilt for choice with three mouth-watering desserts: crème brûlée, a trio of seasonal sorbets, or sticky date pudding and pumpkin ice cream.

The 3-course Winter Dinner Special is available from Monday to Sunday at R345 or R375 including wines. Chef Archie recommends Steenberg Sphynx Chardonnay 2017 with his French onion soup, or duck wontons as starters. For mains, he has paired the Steenberg Stately 2015 Cabernet Sauvignon/Shiraz with smoked aubergine and bocconcini risotto, or his generous plate of roast chicken breast.

Dessert is a choice of sticky date pudding and pumpkin ice cream, or poached winter fruits with cinnamon ice cream, pain d’épices (spiced honey cake) and mulled wine.

Catharina’s Restaurant is open 7-days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner.

On Sundays it’s the place to be for a lavish buffet-style feast and live music from 12h00 till 15h00.
