Fun in the sun at Elgin Cool Wine and Country Food Festival

A mere hours’ drive from Cape Town, the lush Elgin Valley with its rolling, fertile hills are now shimmering with the burnished colours of autumn – almost worth the drive in itself! Elgin Wines proudly hosts their annual Elgin Cool Wine and Country Food Festival, to be held over the weekend of 29th and 30th April 2017, from 10h00 until 17h00 daily. Sponsors are the Rola Motor Group, based in Somerset West. Thank you Rola Motors!

Elgin Cool Wine and Country Food Festival is the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of the city, and there is something for young and old alike to enjoy.  Taste some of the best cool climate wines, vast spreads of festive food, live entertainment, outdoor activities for the sportsfans and, of course, the spectacular natural beauty of the valley.

Each of the participating wineries will offer a unique programme, so you can design your day just the way you like it. Fun and entertainment come from live bands, art exhibitions, kid’s activities and sports events. Each venue presents its own individual lunch menu complimenting their unique wines.  Choose from American-style smokehouse BBQ’s, farm picnics, á la carte menus, food trucks, sushi platters…you’re spoilt for choice, really. Go hungry!

Elgin is noted as the coolest wine growing region in South Africa with its high altitude and climate conditions, which allow grapes to ripen slowly, resulting in wines with character defined by excellent purity, distinct minerality, density of fruit and an elegance which can only be described as bottled poetry.

Special Event at Paul Cluver:

Don’t miss out on the opportunity to taste a selection of rare wines with Paul Cluver Wines cellar master, Andries Burger, at this year’s Elgin Cool Wine & Country Festival (29 & 30 April). The tasting, which will be presented in the barrel cellar on the 29th from 10am to 12pm, includes a cellar line up of vintage and current release wines, carefully selected by Andries and Managing Director, Paul Cluver. This bespoke tasting will also include wines from the Cluver family’s private vinoteque collection as well as Andries’ Cape Winemakers Guild Auction wines and some international wines from Burgundy. A tasting you don’t want to miss. To allow for the ultimate rare wine experience the tasting is strictly limited to a maximum of 10 guests at a cost of R750 per person. Pre-booking is essential to avoid disappointment

At Paul Cluver, their Bangkok Street Food Truck will be offering a variety of Asian-inspired delights from their famous food truck on both days from 9am to 5pm, at Paul Cluver Wines. Thai chicken green curry is perfect with the Paul Cluver Gewürztraminer, and vegetarian Tofu Pad Thai is a dream with the Paul Cluver Riesling Close Encounter. Or indulge in the spring roll selection and delicious sushi platters with a bottle of the Estate Chardonnay! Visit the Tasting Room for a quick sip and bite en route, or bring your picnic blankets for a lazy afternoon right there on the estate. Good news? Young ones are entertained while the grown-ups get chilling. Yeah!
